Tim Hiller: Man On a Mission
It is tough enough to battle back after tearing an ACL in one knee and have a substantial career but to do tear the ligament in both knees and be a record-breaking QB is on another level.
During Tim's freshman season, where he won MAC Freshman of the Year, he tore his ACL on the second play from scrimmage during the season finale. He rehabbed all of 2006 and essentially had another freshman season in 2007 despite throwing for over 3,000 yards and 20 TDs.
In 2008 he broke WMU season records for pass completions, attempts, yards, TDs, total offense and total offensive plays. During the Broncos' 10th game of the season, a 23-17 win over Illinois, Hiller tore the ACL in his other knee. He was told that he could shut down for the remainder of the season and have surgery. He declined. He wanted to finish what the team started and played the final three games, including the Texas Bowl, on a torn knee ligament being held still by a brace. He did not want his teammates to know about his injury so he would put the brace on in a bathroom stall in the locker room after the team had gone out to practice and wore sweat pants to hide the injury.
He is in his final season and has broken the WMU career marks for passing TDs and completions with the career yards, attempts and total offense marks in his sights. He is also on pace to become the first Bronco QB to throw for 3,000 yards in back-to-back-to-back seasons.
