Jess Bowers is an interesting story in that he never joined the Clemson team until this past spring. He had appeared in three football movies (Radio, Leatherheads, We Are Marshall) after he finished high school in 2002. He had been in and out of colleges due to his experience in the movies, and finally came to Clemson in 2008. He came out for the team as a walk-on at the age of 25 last Spring. He had a terrific spring and would see action for us. But just before the season started and we went through certification, it was determined that he was not eligible because he was too old. Not because he had done poorly in school.' When Coach Swinney told him he was ineligible he expected him to shake his hand, say thanks and leave. But, Jess told Coach Swinney he still wanted to be a part of the team and practice. It was enough for him to practice each day and get to run down the hill with the Clemson team on Saturdays. so that is what he has done this year, practice hard as a scout team defensive lineman, the put on a jersey and run down the hill with the team and watch from the sidelines.
